Japanese food delivery more than doubles in 2021

Japanese cuisine has become one of Brazil's favorites, including delivery. Millions of Japanese cuisine items were delivered by iFood. Know more!

Who doesn't like sushi, temaki or yakisoba? Since the first Japanese arrived in Brazil, in 1908, our cuisine has gained a touch of shoyu, wasabi and miso – and the typical Japanese dishes won over Brazilians.

Since then, Japanese cuisine has become one of Brazil's favorites, including delivery. In March 2021, more than 9.7 million Japanese cuisine items were delivered by iFood, more than double (110%) the volume registered in March 2020, following the increase of 106% in the number of orders.

At the other end, the number of Japanese restaurants that registered on the platform grew by 55% in the same period – 85% of which are medium or small. All this to account for a growing appetite for Japanese cuisine. Between 2018 and 2020, demand almost tripled: iFood saw the number of orders rise by 291%.

Today, the most ordered dishes for delivery are traditional sushi, sashimi, temaki, yakisoba and ramen, followed by fish and seafood and poke bowls. The cities that most order Japanese food at home are São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba.
