iFood raises R$380 thousand in donations to the Yanomami

In partnership with CUFA, the action allocates funds to the construction of health units and the provision of drinking water in the indigenous territory. Campaign continues until February 27th, with the goal of reaching R$ 3 million

São Paulo, February 2023 — iFood, a Brazilian technology company and reference in delivery, joined the NGO CUFA (Central Única das Favelas) to collaborate with emergency and humanitarian actions in favor of the Yanomami Indigenous Land. In the first two weeks of the initiative, R$380 thousand in donations have already been raised, which will contribute to enabling the construction of two health units in the territory, one in the Surucucu Indigenous Health Center and the second in a region to be defined, in addition to distribution of portable water filters and water tank installations.

Since January 23rd, iFood has reinforced its partnership with the NGO to collect donations for the cause, which aims to reach R$ 3 million by the end of February. Those interested in contributing can make a donation simply and securely, directly through the app, in two ways:

  • Donation at checkout: the customer has the option of donating a fixed amount or rounding up their purchase when paying for their order on the platform;
  • In the profile: the customer can make a donation at any time by opening the “Profile” tab and clicking on “Donations”.

In addition to the two units in Yanomami territory, the initiative contributes to structuring health bases spread across several indigenous territories, together with Funai.

“This is an action that is part of our emergency campaigns, in which we transform our application into a solidarity platform. We are using technology to facilitate the allocation of resources and contribute to those in need. Last year, we had good results with a fundraising campaign, a similar action we carried out to help people affected by heavy rains and floods in Bahia”, explains Flávia Rosso, sustainability manager at iFood. “In 2022, iFood customers made more than 1.6 million donations through the app. With this, the company raised and transferred more than R$7 million, resources that impacted the lives of 5 million Brazilians”, adds the executive.

On January 20, the Ministry of Health declared a public health emergency in the Yanomami territory, located in the states of Roraima and Amazonas, which suffers from a lack of health care and faces cases of severe malnutrition and malaria. This is the largest indigenous reserve in Brazil, with a population of more than 30 thousand people. With this, iFood started to support the project presented by the NGO, which formulated actions with impact in the short, medium and long term, after visits to the Yanomami Indigenous Health Center and conversations with government authorities, civil society and Funai.
