iFood is a partner in the first sustainable corn straw packaging factory in Brazil

With an eye on sustainable innovations and initiatives that are increasingly concerned with preserving and regenerating the environment, iFood signed a partnership with growPack. The startup founded in 2018, in Argentina, opens today (15) the first sustainable and compostable packaging factory whose main raw material is corn straw. The location is in Vinhedo, in the interior of São Paulo.

With versatile technology that can be adapted to alternative biomass sources, the process allows the co-creation of different products according to market needs. The objective of the partnership with iFood is to work together on the creation of specific packaging for food delivery.

“Following its objective of reducing the use of plastic in delivery, iFood invested in the potential that growPack technology offers. Together, we will work to make packaging scalable and become part of the daily lives of partner restaurants, being another pillar for the combat to climate change and zero carbon emissions from our ecosystem”, says Alexandre Lima, sustainability manager at iFood.
