iFood Pedal wins among 12 projects presented at UN event in New York

Initiative that combines social and environmental impact is the only one in Latin America chosen to be presented at the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit 2023 event

São Paulo, September 2023 – iFood, a Brazilian technology company, was highlighted during the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit 2023 event, which took place on September 19, in New York. The project iFood Pedal, the company's bike sharing and decarbonization program, was the big winner among the 12 projects presented during the global meeting.

As a member of Inova 2030 – a UN initiative to encourage the development of impact projects that contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals –, iFood was invited to present a case at the meeting, which aims to debate and accelerate progress of the SDGs. The iFood Pedal case was the only one selected to participate among Latin American countries, inserting Brazil into one of the most important UN events.

“The recognition of iFood Pedal by the UN, as a project that generates positive impact from a social and environmental point of view, contributing to the SDGs, means that we are on the right path and that we have the capacity to innovate to transform the world for the better”, says Fabiane Carrijo, Experience Manager for Delivery People at iFood.

iFood Pedal – innovation that generates social and environmental impact

About to complete three years, iFood Pedal was created based on the company's public commitment to becoming neutral in carbon emissions by 2025, with 50% of its deliveries made in non-polluting modes and the rest through the purchase of credits. carbon.

Since its launch in 2020, the bike sharing program for iFood delivery people has avoided the emission of 40 thousand tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

The positive data shows that the investment in alternative and non-polluting modalities was wise and continues to evolve: iFood is about to reach an average of 1 million orders per month fulfilled by the modal. Currently, there are 5,500 delivery men and women in Brazil active on iFood Pedal who, since the implementation of the initiative, have carried out 15 million deliveries in the seven cities in which it is present: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Recife, Salvador, Porto Alegre and , more recently, Curitiba.

It is also worth highlighting that iFood Pedal goes far beyond enabling a non-polluting mode and adds initiatives for the well-being and safety of delivery people. Professionals have access to more than 700 Support Points to charge their cell phones, go to the bathroom, drink water, heat a meal and rest between deliveries. They also have Pedal Responsa, a free course on traffic safety in video class format. To date, around 23 thousand delivery people have already been certified by Pedal Responsa and received a kit with a personalized bottle, cell phone holder and UV protection shirt.

iFood Pedal is made possible through a partnership with Tembici, a reference company in micromobility and solutions for urban spaces, offering different electric and traditional bike rental plans for delivery people registered on the platform. As it is a bicycle sharing program, the routes are distributed according to Tembici's capillarity, taking into account the location of stations for collecting and returning bicycles. The fee received by couriers who use bicycles as a mode of transportation is calculated per kilometer traveled.
