What are iFood’s actions for sustainable mobility?

iFood has invested in sustainable mobility since 2021, when it created its environmental goals. As a result, it is committed to reducing the carbon footprint of deliveries by increasing deliveries made using clean vehicles. Today, iFood has more than 3,500 electric bicycles and 850 electric motorbikes making deliveries daily on the platform.

To achieve this, the company focuses on the use of sustainable modes, such as electric bicycles made available to delivery people in iFood Pedal, of leasing these vehicles, and encourages these professionals to adopt electric motorcycles. Result: one in every five orders is delivered using a non-polluting mode.

Since 2021, more than 15 million deliveries have been made through iFood Pedal in seven cities that offer this option (Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Salvador, São Paulo, Curitiba and Porto Alegre). Speaking of clean modes, in 2022 Rio de Janeiro became the first city in the country to deliver 50% of orders using non-polluting vehicles (well before 2025).

Furthermore, to mitigate impacts in relation to the worsening of the greenhouse effect, iFood has neutralized 100% of CO₂ emissions from its delivery operations since July 2021.

What is the Alliance for Sustainable Mobility?

The initiative brings together 19 companies to boost vehicle electrification and charging infrastructure in the country. The movement includes the charging, infrastructure, automakers, banks, vehicle rental and app transportation sectors.

In two years, the Alliance invested more than R$ 245 million in advancing the electrified mobility ecosystem in Brazil. These resources were directed to initiatives to facilitate access to hybrid and electric cars and the expansion of charging infrastructure.

iFood's entry into the Alliance for Sustainable Mobility marks the expansion of the scope of action, also incorporating electric motorcycles into the coalition's plans. This is a market that has been growing in Brazil in recent years, but it still requires investments in infrastructure, research and development and large manufacturers in Brazil to reach its full potential.
