PIX also grows in retail

It has already become the favorite of Brazilians for making bank transfers. But does not stop there. The modality is also available on iFood.

In just a few months of life, the Pix has become the favorite of Brazilians for making transfers and paying bills. Launched in November 2020, this instant digital payment method has been used more than TEDs, DOCs and bank slips in the country since March 2021, according to the Central Bank (BC).

Created to diversify payment options and increase financial inclusion, Pix already handles R$ 363 million in transactions (data from June 2021) and is favored by those who do not have a debit or credit card to make online purchases. “The high use of Pix in the short time it has been in existence indicates that the Brazilian population has been very receptive to the new payment method”, points out the BC in the report “Pix: the new Brazilian payment method”.

Pix is also being increasingly used by individuals to make payments to companies (B2P). In eight months, the value of B2P transactions via Pix went from R$ 1.3 million to R$ 36.2 million in the country.

There are a few reasons, according to experts, why the new payment method has become popular with Brazilians: transaction speed, real-time monitoring of bank transactions, alternative to a credit card – whether for those who don't have one or for those who don't want to consume the limit, among others.

Following this trend, the iFood incorporated Pix as a payment method in May of this year. The modality is already accepted in all cities where iFood is present. And it is also possible to choose PIX as a payment option for purchases made through the iFood portal.

How to make a PIX on iFood

To pay with PIX in the iFood app, simply select this option in the app, copy the generated code, enter the bank using your key and complete the transaction by pasting the code in the “QR code or QR Code” field. The solution was developed for iFood by Brazilian fintech Zoop, specialized in technology for payment methods and financial services in B2B.
