iFood actions against criminals pretending to be delivery people

Company uses technology to verify who works on the platform and maintains partnerships with state Public Security Secretariats

In 2022, iFood reinforced the use of technology and entered into cooperation agreements with state public security departments to avoid scams by criminals pretending to be fake delivery people.

The company reaffirms that this type of conduct, which harms the image and work of delivery drivers, does not represent the category and cannot be attributed to these professionals.

To offer more security and avoid scams, iFood signed cooperation agreements in 2022 with the Public Security Secretariats of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro It is Ceará. The objective of these partnerships is to combat situations in which criminals pose as fake iFood delivery people.

The company also highlights that it does not require delivery drivers to use the bag (backpack) with the company logo to make deliveries via the platform. Therefore, the fact that a person is using a branded bag does not mean that they are making a delivery via iFood or that they are a registered delivery person.

Technologies for greater security

In states where it maintains partnerships with Public Security Secretariats, iFood makes its technology available to help the police verify who is approached in special operations.

Through an API (Application Programming Interface) that integrates the public system with information from iFood, it is possible to confirm, for example, whether the person is registered to work on the platform and, thus, distinguish real workers from possible scammers.

In this way, iFood offers a solution that contributes to combat to scams and crimes without involving sharing data from delivery drivers registered on the platform. Through an automated and constantly updated system, it is possible to check whether the supposed delivery person's registration is active on the platform or even whether he is on the delivery route at that moment.

“iFood is favorable to the use of technology in the public security scenario, as it reduces bureaucracy in the process and provides a viable and completely updated solution to confirm partners and/or remove anyone who has bad intentions in pretending to be a serious worker. We need to guarantee the flexibility, autonomy and security of everyone who works on platforms”, says João Sabino, director of public policies at iFood.

Checking new delivery people

When registering delivery people, iFood uses the OCR check —technology that allows you to check whether the photo of the document presented is of the person who is registering. The delivery drivers' personal information is also validated through consultation in a public database.

Furthermore, iFood carries out three analyzes before releasing the platform to workers, so that accounts are not misused. O facial recognition It is also activated periodically, as an additional security tool, even after registration validation.

All of these measures aim to guarantee the protection not only of users, but also of the delivery people themselves. For Aliandro Alves, who has been making deliveries using the company's app for four years, periodically checking the system is a positive tool for his work.

“Facial recognition must continue, because it removes the wrong people from circulation, who are trying to pretend to be workers on the app”, explains the delivery man.
