iFood Helmet Angels arrives in Recife

4th edition of the iFood Helmet Angels Project arrives in Recife to train motorcyclists and cyclists in traffic safety

Recife, September 28, 2021 – On September 28th and 29th, iFood holds the fourth class of Helmet Angels Project in Recife, which aims to train its delivery partners with road safety and first aid guidelines for their daily lives in cities.

The initiative is in partnership with Recife City Hall, through the Urban Traffic and Transport Authority (CTTU) and the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU), within the scope of the Safe Pilot Program. This is the fourth edition of the project in Recife, which has already trained 88 couriers, including motorcyclists and cyclists.

Training takes place in a hybrid model: online and in-person. On the iFood Decola training platform, participants can learn more about first aid theories, ranging from basic to advanced modules. There are 40 hours of online training. The in-person training will be divided into two groups: around 30 cyclists on 28/09 and also around 30 motorcyclists on 29/09.

The idea is to teach first aid techniques, safe driving and essential precautions for good road safety, enabling delivery drivers to become learning multipliers and act voluntarily in the city's daily life. After training, participants will receive a certificate and equipment such as a first aid kit, jacket and even a white helmet, which will allow them to be easily identified on the streets. By officially becoming “helmet angels”, they will eventually be able to provide first aid prior to SAMU assistance.

“Recife was the first city to bring the project in this public-private partnership format and it has been a success. Therefore, we are holding another Anjos de Capacete class in the municipality, expanding our partnership with the city hall, and training more motorcyclists and cyclists to be agents in road safety and first aid”, comments Tayara Calina, Public Policy Coordinator of the iFood.

Anjos de Capacete, in partnership with city halls, has already been held in Recife, Belo Horizonte and, recently, in Maceió. iFood has already started conversations with 10 other major Brazilian capitals to further expand the project, to train more delivery drivers, contributing to safer traffic for everyone.
