Meet the new Helmet Angels who graduated in Rio

Meet the new Helmet Angels formed by iFood in Rio de Janeiro and find out why this traffic safety initiative is important in cities.

Delivery drivers and experts talk about the importance of learning about road safety and first aid

Some iFood delivery partners roam the streets with a very special mission: to ensure traffic safety and provide first aid to victims of road accidents. You can recognize them by the white helmet that, on the back, has the words “Angel in a Helmet”.

At the beginning of December, the newest class of Helmet Angels (iFood's pioneering program aimed at accident prevention, traffic safety and first aid training) was formed in Rio de Janeiro —230 delivery drivers were trained and are already running in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

“Road safety is a very serious problem in Brazil, so we wanted to put innovative solutions and projects like this into practice”, says Thales Vieira, coordinator of Anjos de Capacete.

For Brenno Carnevale, public order secretary of Rio de Janeiro, this type of action becomes even more important with the increase in demand for delivery services. “Delivery people are traveling around the city, so they end up encountering traffic accidents,” he says.

iFood partners agree. “I've seen a lot of accidents, that's why I think it's important to know how to help,” says delivery man Cláudio Ramos, one of iFood's Helmet Angels. “The course is fundamental for us.”

Among his colleagues in this last class graduated in Rio de Janeiro, there are even those who are, a little, fulfilling their childhood dream of being a firefighter.
