Support point: strategic stop for delivery drivers to rest

Delivery driver Adriano talks about his experience at this stopping point in a video from the Abrindo a Bag series

Adriano, 32 years old, was born in Rio de Janeiro, but for two years he has been traveling around the capital of São Paulo and some neighboring cities on a motorcycle making deliveries using the iFood app. “I travel all over São Paulo. There are times when I start in Osasco, I'm in Carapicuíba, I go to [Vila] Leopoldina, I've already ended up in Guarulhos”, he tells his colleagues at eighth video from the series “Abrindo a Bag”, which is part of the Much More Than a Request campaign, which you can watch on company channel on YouTube and on digital platforms.

During deliveries, “in the rush, in the struggle of everyday life”, as he says, sometimes you feel the urge to stop, use the bathroom, rest. That's where Adriano stops at a support point. In restaurants registered with iFood for this purpose, delivery partners can use the bathroom and drink water while waiting for the order.

We already support points implemented in partnership with the private sector, delivery drivers have at their disposal a microwave, water filter, sink, sockets to recharge their cell phones and a space to rest with internet access. “The support point works as follows: it opens at around seven in the morning, there is an iFood employee who stays inside to monitor you, a little cafeteria. There’s a bathroom, there’s a place to heat your lunch”, explains Adriano to his companions.

“Lately I didn’t go out with a packed lunch. Now I'm even going out with a lunch box inside my bag, because I have a place to heat it up and make my meal piping hot. I arrive with a dead or low cell phone and charge it. There’s a microwave, there’s a filter so we can drink ice-cold water,” he adds.

Support points appear in the delivery app when they receive the order, indicating, for example, whether a restaurant is one of these locations or not. Adriano already has his favorites. “There’s one in Pinheiros that I know and another in Osasco. But I see in the app that iFood has already set up more support points”, he says. And he's right: in 2022, iFood has 1,260 support points in 14 cities across the country.

For Adriano, the support point is more than a place to recharge his batteries. “There, in fact, it becomes a meeting point for us. We meet and catch up on everything”, says the delivery man. “For those who didn't have the opportunity to visit the support point, there is one in Osasco. It's worth stopping there to get to know it and exchange ideas with the guys. It's very worth it. The support point is ours.”
