5 tips for growing professionally in 2022

How to stay focused and achieve the goals set for 2022? Check out 5 tips from an expert to maintain discipline.

We spoke with Eberson Terra, LinkedIn Top Voice and author of Exponential Careers, to understand how to stay focused on the goals set at the beginning of the year

At the turn of the year, we set goals and review plans we had planned for the past period. How to prevent these goals from being lost over time? Tips such as “focus on a single objective” and “establish possible projects” are among the common pieces of advice, but we sought out from an expert how to really put this into practice and, above all, how to keep moving and continually evolving in the professional field.

Eberson Terra, LinkedIn's Top Voice and author of the book “Exponential Careers”, told iFood News what the five essential steps are for those who want to grow professionally in 2022. Check it out:

1. Break your big goals into smaller goals

“Just like those promises we make every year end (like losing weight and exercising more), our professional goals also need to be measurable. Big objectives need to be separated into small goals with a defined deadline and effort, which, when added together, allow us to achieve the macro objective. This tip ensures that things get off the ground little by little, without seeming like an immense, Herculean and impossible task to accomplish.”

2. Get closer to new technologies

“It is inevitable that, from now on, all companies will no longer use technology as a tool, but as part of their core business. Therefore, all activities, from the most operational to the most strategic, will require certain knowledge in technology — whether to better analyze data in a large data warehouse or control robots that will perform repetitive tasks. I would say that, more than approaching technologies, keep in mind how to understand how they affect your daily life and especially your field of activity. Continuing to do the same thing will no longer be a recipe for success.”

3. Know how to interpret data

“In 2022, knowing how to explore data will be a competitive differentiator for any company and, consequently, for any professional. Knowing how to correctly interpret and use data can transform you and your company into “game changers”, that is, those who actually call the shots in the market. This skill becomes essential in recruitment and selection processes and places these professionals a few steps ahead of competitors who only carry out their activities and have technical knowledge in a certain area.”

4. Learn to quickly adapt to new cultures

“With the world becoming increasingly volatile, your career is likely to be full of shorter experiences at different companies. After all, see that the pandemic transformed the job market that seemed local into something global, breaking geographical barriers. Therefore, you will compete with professionals from anywhere in the world. One of the most important skills to be successful in 2022 is to assimilate and learn to adapt quickly to different cultures, to new employers or companies where you will provide service. This saves a lot of time and brings professionals closer to the productivity they want, as you quickly embrace your new challenges as if you had been there for a long time.”

5. Don't stop studying

“This tip is not just valid for 2022, but for life! We are experiencing a world of great obsolescence – that is, everything becomes old very quickly, as does our technical knowledge. I usually say that soft skills, or socio-emotional skills, are like wine: they improve over time and the more we exercise. However, hard skills, technical skills, are lost along the way and need to be renewed periodically to continue being desired professionals.”
