iFood heats up for Rock in Rio scares away cold in São Paulo

Luísa Sonza, Xamã and Gilberto Gil mix rhythms and generations during the first edition of iFood Music Fest

Luísa Sonza, Xamã and Gilberto Gil took the term “heats up” seriously for the show that opened iFood's actions as a sponsor of Rock in Rio 2022. The first edition of iFood Music Fest promoted a mix of rhythms and generations to amaze the intense cold in São Paulo (SP) last Thursday night (19/5).

“I really want to thank you for this incredible moment, in this cold. It surprises me that you all came out of the house in this cold to see us”, said Luísa Sonza to the audience who sang, danced and didn't stop for a single moment during the almost two hours of the performance.

And you couldn't even stop because the pace of the show was intense. Those who followed the iFood channel on YouTube or on the foodtech app saw that Luísa Sonza and Xamã took turns on the stage all the time, performed duets and then honored Gilberto Gil, the honoree of the night and the 2022 edition of Rock in Rio. In June, the artist with so many hits turns 80 years old.

“We can only go to a place if we know where we came from. He is one of the greatest artists we have ever seen. Being here today is very special”, said the young singer about veteran Gil.

Luísa, then Shaman, then Luísa with Shaman, then Shaman, then Luísa again….

The iFood Music Fest started with Luísa Sonza singing “Intere$$eira”. Xamã entered shortly afterwards with “Malvadão 3”, setting the tone for the mix of rhythms that marked the festival: pop, funk, rap, hip-hop, reggae and even a little forro.

“Tonight the mess is with us. It’s not cold in São Paulo”, said Xamã before calling Luísa Sonza back to the stage. Together they sent the song “Câncer”.

After that, the singer from Rio Grande do Sul shined alone on stage with the sequence “Melhor Alone” — with the special participation of the flash light from the audience’s cell phones to create the atmosphere —, “cliff.” and “Anaconda”.

Then it was Xamã’s turn to return for a new duet, this time “Let Me Go”. And Luísa Sonza went so that the Rio rapper could give his solo performance with the songs “Monalisa”, “Era Uma Vez (Poesia Acústica #6)”, “Selva de Concreto”, “Melhor Forma (Poesia Acústica #9)” and the debut of “Dublê de Husband” in live performances.

The first part of the show ended with the hit “Sentadona” — with the singer’s knee pads — and another duet with Xamã, this time with the song “Café da Manhã”.

Gilberto Gil adds more rhythm to the iFood Music Fest mix

“Look there, Sampa! You came, even with this cold. They came to honor these two wonderful contemporary artists and this one from the old school.” This was how Gilberto Gil greeted the audience after he, Luísa Sonza and Xamã sang the song “ Vamos Fugir ” together.

The night's honoree also had the help of Sonza to sing the delightful forró “Esperando na Janela” and Xamã, who improvised a rap on Gil's version of the classic “Three Little Birds”, by Bob Marley, and accompanied the veteran in "The new".

Gil also played the songs “Esotérico” and “Toda Menina Bahiana” before inviting Luísa Sonza once again to share the vocals on the song “Andar com Fé”, which moved the singer.

“I started singing when I was 7 years old in a wedding band in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. And the opening of the shows was always with Andar com Fé. I never imagined that one day I would be in São Paulo, which was far away for me, singing with Gilberto Gil. This is very incredible, surreal and important for me”, she said emotionally and then received a hug from the youngest immortal of the Brazilian Academy of Letters.

“You came from Rio Grande do Sul and now you are here, having a wonderful career and winning over the public, sharing this energy and this original way of making music with them. And alongside someone who also had wonderful ancestors, like Dorival Caymmi and Luiz Gonzaga”, said Gil, showing that different generations can always share the stage.

“Palco”, in fact, was the song chosen for the trio to close the first iFood festival!
