Expo Favela brings together an entrepreneur from the suburbs with an asphalt investor

Event held in São Paulo aims to showcase the diversity and new businesses in the favela

Promote meetings between entrepreneurs and startups from the favela and executives and investors “from the asphalt” is the proposal of Expo Favela, which will be held between April 15th and 17th, 2022 in São Paulo (SP).

The event, which has iFood as one of its sponsors, is a different business fair, which has everything on the agenda: lectures, workshops, debates, mentoring, funk dances and shows — everything to demonstrate the diversity that exists in the world of broken.

To top it off, 350 exhibitors, who are entrepreneurs from the favela, will show solutions that can be applied in large companies. In addition to giving visibility to the favela's initiatives, the event will promote the meeting of entrepreneurs with investors to make their pitch, receive mentoring or participate in debates.

“We are going to create an atmosphere to reduce prejudice towards businesses in the neighborhood”, The event's creator, Celso Athayde, tells Folha. Raised in Favela do Sapo (west zone of Rio de Janeiro), he is the founder of Central Única das Favelas (CUFA) and Favela Holding, a group of more than 20 companies focused on social business. In 2021, Celso was elected Social Entrepreneur of the year by the Schwab Foundation and became part of the World Economic Forum's network of social innovators.

Diversity in debate

Over the three days of the event, the debate tables will address different topics, such as financial education, gastronomy, solidarity and collaborative leadership. And they will promote meetings such as that of rapper Emicida and the CEO of UX for Minas Pretas, Karen Santos, to discuss education in technology, and that of Luiza Helena Trajano, president of the Board of Magazine Luiza and Grupo Mulheres do Brasil, with Karla Recife, co-founder of Frente Favela Brasil, to discuss the topic “Women, politics and favela”.

Another guest at the event, DJ Alok, will talk about the digitalization of trust in society, while actress and presenter Regina Casé will participate in a panel on how to thrive leading teams and captivating the public. Johnny Borges, Public Policy manager in the Communities area at iFood, will also make a presentation at Expo Favela. He will talk about the ecosystem of foodtech, addressing how the relationship between business and society has been transforming.
