The movement Everyone at the Table, an initiative by iFood and social impact startup Connecting Food in partnership with companies to combat hunger and food waste, is one of the winning initiatives of the ECO Brazil Award 2022, which recognizes businesses that develop the best and most innovative ESG (environmental, social and governance) practices.

This coalition of companies, which has already donated 4,000 tons of food, came first in the Sustainability Practices modality in the Processes for Large Companies category. The awards ceremony will be held on July 28th, in São Paulo.

The winners of 39The edition of the award, created by Amcham and carried out in partnership with Época Negócios magazine, were selected by a team of 50 jurors and experts from among 108 registered initiatives, of which 28 were selected.

Donations made by Todos à Mesa companies, launched in October 2021, have already benefited 1.3 million people across the country. The movement is formed by the companies Bauducco, Camil, Carrefour, Danone, DPA, iFood, Lopes Supermercados, M. Dias Branco, Nestlé and the foodtech Connecting Food, specialist in surplus food redistribution.

Companies participating in the movement redistribute food that is suitable for human consumption, but has a high chance of being wasted, donating it safely to hunger relief organizations and food banks in 19 states.

In a scenario where more than 33 million Brazilians are severely food insecure, the movement has the important role of raising awareness about food waste and promoting the engagement of more companies.

Advances in ESG

Since its creation in 1982, the ECO Award has received more than 3,000 sustainability projects, of which 363 were awarded in recognition of companies' commitment to the topic of sustainability.

“When analyzing the projects in this edition, we were able to observe major trends, including a very strong movement of partnerships between companies from different segments, or even competitors, with the aim of addressing complex themes on the ESG agenda, such as combating food waste and domestic violence”, announced the organizers of the award.

Another point in which companies made progress, according to the organization, was in the creation of projects to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions, with goals and indicators considered bold.

Over the years, the Eco Award has gained recognition for anticipating trends and for its positive influence on companies' commitment to sustainability challenges.
