Todos pela Educação creates policies to improve basic education

Find out how this iFood partner NGO mobilizes public agents and leaders to strengthen education across the country

iFood is not alone in its purpose of Feed the future with education. To deliver results in this mission, the company allies with NGOs as well as Everyone for Education.

This non-governmental organization was created in 2006 on the premises of the Ipiranga Museum, the oldest public museum in São Paulo. And it emerged with the objective of “ensuring the right to basic education quality for all Brazilians and the guarantee of greater equality of opportunities”, defines Priscila Cruz, executive president of Todos pela Educação.

To achieve these goals, the NGO established four lines of action. One of them is the formulation of public educational policies.

A second role is to coordinate with public agents and political leaders, among other key actors, to ensure the implementation of necessary measures.

Todos pela Educação also carries out permanent public monitoring of the implementation and results of educational policies. Furthermore, it continually works to include the topic on the agenda of Brazilian society.

Along this path, the organization has already established important milestones in its search for advances in the Brazilian educational system.

Mobilized efforts, for example, to approve the Constitutional Amendment nº 59, in 2009, which made the enrollment of all children and young people between 4 and 17 years old in primary and secondary education mandatory.

National Education Plan

In 2014, the NGO participated in the National Education Plan (PNE) and contributed to the inclusion of goals for the expansion of comprehensive education and the definition of a common national curricular base.

He was also active in the debates that culminated in the New Secondary Education and in discussions about the National Education System (SNE), known as the “SUS of Education”, and the new Fundeb (Basic Education Maintenance and Development Fund).

In the process of approving the fund, in August 2020, Todos pela Educação carried out several studies and integrated debates, events and public hearings to ensure a more redistributive model, capable of raising the minimum level of investment per student in Brazil, highlights Priscila.

“Many aspects of the approved proposal had a strong influence from Todos, such as efficiency and increased resources”, he says. “A very clear indicator of this impact is the increase in resources in 2,750 municipalities in 25 states, which reached 17 million students.”

In 2022, the NGO launched Educação Já, a document with diagnoses and recommendations to guide the actions of elected administrations. “We coordinated with key actors, reinforcing a robust and transformative educational agenda, essential for the future of the country”, explains the executive president.

Throughout that year, Todos won some awards for its work, including the CNN Notáveis, the Darcy Ribeiro da Educação and the Social Entrepreneur Award.

Collective pact for public schools

During the period, the NGO also held two major events that mobilized important national leaders: the Annual Meeting Educação Já, in April, and the Pact for Learning, in December, a commitment in Brasília that included the participation of UNESCO and “paves the way so that we can have a new federative pact around education in 2023”, emphasizes Priscila.

“For us, having iFood as an engaged partner is very important, both in providing its customers with the opportunity to make donations via the app to Todos pela Educação and in contributing to the visibility of the cause”, he adds.
