iFood supports project that transforms recyclables into credit

Company sponsors Mais Fortaleza program action; find out how the system works

O iFood joined forces with the city of Fortaleza and Ambipar Triciclo to encourage recycling in the capital of Ceará. On May 24, 13 machines were inaugurated in the city that receive recyclables and, in return, generate credit to be used in the Bilhete Único for municipal transport and telephone operators, among others.

The system works like this: first people register on the Triciclo de Loyalty Program application or on the machine itself. Afterwards, they can deposit the recyclable material into the machines (called Return Machines); in return, they receive tricoins, which are the program's currencies. See, in the gallery below, what the machine looks like.

These tricoins can be used, for example, to pay public transport, urban and metropolitan bus fares in Fortaleza or become a discount on energy bills, telephone and bookstore credit, as well as money in digital accounts from partner financial institutions.

This project is an initiative of the Mais Fortaleza program, which is sponsored by iFood. The machines will collect aluminum, plastic, steel, long-life and glass packaging.

“At iFood, we have a public commitment to promoting recycling through innovative initiatives, and this action alongside Ambipar, the City of Fortaleza and the Mais Fortaleza program is a great example of how public-private partnerships can boost sustainability” , says Alexandre Lima, sustainability manager at iFood.
