New material will support teaching diversity in schools

Partnership between Fundação 1Bi and NGO TODXS brings free content about diversity to the training itinerary of high school students; find out how to access.

Good news for those who want to learn and teach about diversity in schools: students and teachers from public schools across Brazil now have free access to a human rights training itinerary focused on this topic.

New teaching material, aimed at high school, is available on the platform AprendiZAP, created by 1Bi Foundation for deliver content to students and teachers via WhatsApp, following the guidelines of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). The 1Bi Foundation is a social institution supported by the Movile Group and the companies it invests in (among them, iFood).

Training itineraries are the big news the reformulation of the high school curriculum. From 2022 onwards, the school curriculum must include elective subjects in students' training, and the itinerary is the set of subjects, projects, workshops and study centers that they can follow according to their aptitude and vocation, with the option of focus on an area of knowledge (such as mathematics, natural sciences and human sciences) or on technical and professional training.

The training itinerary prepared by 1Bi and TODXS (NGO that promotes the inclusion of people LGBTQIAP+) will address topics such as body diversity, human rights and gender issues, prejudice against LGBTQIAP+ people, racial equality, inclusion of people with disabilities, transgender people and mental health.

This content was created to support teachers and students during this period of high school curriculum changes and offer training paths with activities, videos and teaching exercises that explain the topics in accessible language.

“We noticed that teachers we spoke to were having difficulty finding materials developed for the New High School, with the training itinerary cut out. When they were found, they were lesson plans that were difficult to adapt to the school context”, says Bianca Silva, teacher and content analyst at AprendiZAP.

An example: only 26% of educational institutions have projects to talk about homophobia in the classroom, and only in 16% is there a plan to address machismo according to the Brazilian Basic Education Yearbook 2021. And just under half (48%) of schools discuss the racism

The study material on diversity created by Fundação 1Bi and TODXS is available on AprendiZAP. To start the conversation with the bot and receive the materials, just send a “Hi” to the number (11) 97450-6763 and talk to the little robot.

AprendiZAP has more than 1,500 ready-made classes and exercises available, all free of charge. The content, available in different formats (PDF, video, images, text), has already been used by 100 thousand teachers and 450 thousand students.
